A primary school in Hastings that supports children with a range of special educational needs required urgent assistance with a roof access issue. Following a roof leak, maintenance teams were unable to reach the affected area safely, creating a need for a compliant, non-penetrative fall-protection system that could be installed quickly and without disrupting the school schedule.
Safesite was approached to provide a tailored solution that would deliver safe roof access and long-term collective protection. A joint survey was undertaken to assess site conditions, identify hazards, and determine the best method for achieving full perimeter safety while protecting the new roof surface.
Thanks to clear communication, fast design turnaround, and technical support, Safesite was able to prepare proposals promptly and schedule installation during the Easter holidays to avoid disruption to teaching and daily operations.

Following the site assessment, Safesite proposed a 100-metre Freestanding Kee Guard® system incorporating a self-closing access gate to provide continuous edge protection around the main roof area.
Key project elements included:
The Kee Guard system was selected for its proven performance, non-penetrative design, and full compliance with BS 13700: 2021, the latest British Standard for permanent counterweighted guardrails. It provides collective fall protection, meaning anyone accessing the roof—whether staff or contractors—is safeguarded without the need for personal harnesses or lifelines.
Safesite’s rapid quotation and attention to detail enabled quick client approval and ensured installation could be completed within the tight project timescale.
Installation was coordinated around the school’s calendar, with all works carried out during the Easter holiday period to ensure a clear, safe site. The system was delivered and installed efficiently, with Safesite’s team ensuring full compliance with manufacturer guidelines and UK safety standards throughout.
The modular nature of the Kee Guard system allowed for a swift, non-disruptive installation while maintaining the roof’s waterproof integrity.

The completed installation now provides the school with safe, compliant access for ongoing roof maintenance, cleaning, and inspection activities. The freestanding guardrail delivers full perimeter protection while preserving the roof surface and ensuring long-term reliability.
