System 2000 Guardrail at Southwark College

A comprehensive roof safety system including System 2000 guardrail, has been installed at  Southwark College in order to allow safe maintenance of plant and machinery situated at the College's Waterloo and Bermondsey Campuses.

Southwark College provides a range of courses for adult and young learners, business and international students.  As with many buildings, plant and machinery such as air conditioning units are housed on the College's roof which means that regular access is required for maintenance or repair of the equipment.

Following a survey and assessment of the roof areas by Safesite, vertical access ladders have been installed to allow safe access to the different roof areas, while Safesite's System 2000 freestanding guardrail has been installed to provide edge protection on the roofs themselves and to prevent access to areas which contain fragile materials such as rooflights.

Safesite's BBA Approved System 2000 freestanding guardrail provided the ideal solution as it enables protection without the need to mechanically fix the protection system to the roof itself.  This overcomes possible damage to the roof's membrane which can cause water penetration, costly repairs and insurance invalidation.
