HSE inspector stops unsafe roofwork

A roofing company has been fined for failing to ensure work at height was properly planned and carried out safely after an HSE inspector spotted two workers working on a slippery roof without edge protection.

The men were about to start pressure washing the sloping roof of a house before applying a waterproof coating  when the inspector happened to drive by.  He found that that there was no form of protection such as safety barriers or scaffolding in place to prevent the workers from falling.

The roofing company which is now in liquidation hadreceived advice on working at height from the HSE on four separate occasions the previous month.
