ROOFING BOSS JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTERRoy Clark, owner of North Eastern Roofing, has been jailed for 10 months and ordered to pay costs of around £18,000 after an employee, 17 year old Daniel Dennis, fell to his death through a skylight in 2003. The HSE commented that, "this tragic case demonstrates the need for employees to take serious steps to ensure anyone working at height is properly trained, and given appropriate equipment to do their job safely. These measures had not been taken in this case, and Daniel Dennis was never given any training or induction for working at height." COMPANIES FAILING EMPLOYEE'S SAFETYA recent survey by the British Safety Council found that a staggering 62 per cent of workers had received little or no health & safety training from their employers. Most at risk are said to be workers in the construction industry as well as employees of small and medium sized companies.
